TRAFFIC IMPACT ADVISORY: U.S. 23 delay planned for Nov . 16 to install upgrades

November 12, 2014

LOUISA, Ky.,  – Kentucky Power plans to intermittently stop traffic in both directions along U.S. Route 23 in Lawrence County on Sunday, Nov. 16, to allow crews to install equipment upgrades. Customers also should expect a power interruption of about six hours while the upgrades are being made.

The work zone will extend from mile marker 13 to 13.8 but the closures are expected to occur only at mile marker 13.2 near Torchlight Road and the Redbud Subdivision in Louisa. Four to eight closures of 15 minutes or less each are planned between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Workers will make every effort to keep the traffic and power interruptions as brief as possible.

Kentucky Power has notified highway officials, law enforcement agencies and local authorities of the road closures and power outage, and has obtained all necessary work-related permits. Professional traffic control personnel will be used to manage traffic and lane closures during the project. In the event of inclement weather, the project will be rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7.

Kentucky Power is an operating unit of American Electric Power and provides electricity to approximately 172,000 customers in all or part of 20 Eastern Kentucky counties.
