Renewable Energy Choice

PSO's Renewable Energy Choice makes it easy for you to support clean, renewable energy. PSO's Renewable Energy Choice is a voluntary program that takes advantage of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), which represent the environmental attributes of wind and solar. With our abundant wind and sun resources, this program is for residential or business customers who want to impact our future as we move toward less dependence on fossil fuels and less environmental impact from energy production.

Going green is easy with Renewable Energy Choice For a small amount each month, you are helping our communities reduce our carbon footprint, creating a brighter future for all of us. Enroll your home or business today by signing into your account or by calling us at 888.PSO.1367, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You may also e-mail psorec@aep.com for more information.

Make PSO's Renewable Energy Choice Work for You

  • You decide how much of your monthly electricity usage you want to attribute, up to 100 percent.
  • We provide a corresponding amount of RECs from its designated wind and solar generation resources.
  • The Renewable Energy Choice cost of $.0028 per kWh is added as a line item to your bill. For a typical home that uses 1,100 kWhs of energy per month, enrolled in 50% Renewable Energy Choice, the cost would be about $1.54 per month.
  • Each megawatt of clean renewable power that's generated is one less megawatt that has to be generated using fossil fuels.

Four Great Reasons to Enroll in PSO's Renewable Energy Choice Program

Renewable Energy Choice makes it easy to go green. Where else can you make a big impact for such little change? Here's why you should enroll:

The Environment
According to Climate Central, our nation generated 238,121 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity from solar in 2023 — more than eight times the amount generated a decade earlier in 2014. Wind power has more than doubled this decade, with 425,325 GWh coming from wind installations across the country in 2023. Together, these two renewable energy sources generated enough electricity in 2023 to power the equivalent of more than 61 million average American homes. The few extra dollars you spend with PSO's Renewable Energy Choice each month contribute to this positive impact, creating a cleaner, more sustainable environment for all.

In 2023, PSO got pre-approval to build additional renewable energy facilities in Kansas and Texas. The renewable energy resources used to supply our program are located in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Your participation in PSO's Renewable Energy Choice supports our wind and solar industry.

By choosing PSO's Renewable Energy Choice, you're showing that there's a market for clean, renewable power, which will help spur the growth of Oklahoma wind and solar energy to remain a leader in the industry.

If you own a business, this program is a great way to demonstrate your support for the environment. Below is a link to additional options available for commercial and industrial customers looking to offset their Scope 2 emissions.

PSO Renewable Energy Choice FAQs

PSO's WindChoice program is now referred to as PSO's Renewable Energy Choice. This new program includes the addition of solar RECs, thus it will be known as Renewable Energy Choice rather than WindChoice.
Customers currently enrolled in in WindChoice will automatically be enrolled in PSO's Renewable Energy Choice program. This is the same program as WindChoice, with added solar generation. You enroll for a one-year period, although you can cancel at any time. You will automatically be re-enrolled each year unless you unenroll.
This program is designed to help customers achieve their sustainability goals. This is a premium renewable program, meaning subscribing customers pay a small, incremental fee and receive RECs in return. This will be added as a separate line item on your monthly bill. Your support of PSO's Renewable Energy Choice supports Oklahoma wind and solar generation, replacing power that would've otherwise been produced from traditional resources (coal and natural gas) with clean and renewable wind and solar energy.
When a renewable energy generator produces one megawatt-hour of electricity that is certified and sold into the electricity market, it produces a Renewable Energy Certificate, also known as a Renewable Energy Credit, or REC. That REC is the legal representation of the renewable energy generated, which then may be sold to a buyer, such as an individual or an organization. In this way, REC buyers are helping to support renewable energy.
