Company Sponsored Workshops Enable Teachers to Explore Energy, Economics and the Environment

GAHANNA, OH, June 28, 2010 – AEPOhio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), in conjunction with the Ohio Energy Project (OEP), Ohio Fuel Cell Corridor, Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Ohio Propane Education and Research Council, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, Honda of America, AEPFoundation, the Teaching and Learning Collaborative and Columbus State Community College, is sponsoring four Ohio-based workshops for teachers. 
 
Course topics cover energy, economics and the environment.  Workshops include Energy Source Blitz in Findlay, June 28-29 and in Athens, July 27-28; and Sources of Energy Tour July 13-15 plus Bright Start Right Start® July 27-30, both in Columbus, OH
 
The Energy Source Blitz provides a behind-the-scenes look at renewable energy led by industry professionals and staff of the OEP, the state affiliate of the National Education Development (NEED) Project, plus curriculum, classroom materials and ten professional development contact hours.  Sources of Energy Tour gives educators the opportunity to explore the diverse energy resources of the BuckeyeState, provides free curriculum materials and classroom activities from OEP. 
 
The Bright Start Right Start® early childhood educator training program links learning and child care and provides science instruction strategies that research indicates are best suited to early learners.  The workshop is conducted by the Teaching and Learning Collaborative with funding from the AEPFoundation.
 
Many AEP sponsored workshops offer graduate credit, ranging from one to three hours.  Class sizes range from 12 to 30 teachers, with first priority given to educators living and teaching within AEP’s eleven-state service territory.  Workshop co-sponsors include universities, colleges and other educational organizations.
