Live webcasts scheduled of presentations featuring AEP executives at Merrill Lynch event

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 23, 2004 - American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has scheduled live webcasts of two presentations to investors by panels of utility executives at the Merrill Lynch Global Power & Gas Leaders Conference in New York Sept. 28-29.

Michael G. Morris, AEP’s chairman, president and chief executive officer, will participate in a presentation scheduled to begin at 7:45 a.m. EDT Sept. 28. Charles E. Zebula, AEP’s senior vice president - fuel, emissions and logistics, will take part in a presentation scheduled to start at 1 p.m. EDT Sept. 29.

Both presentations can be accessed through the Internet at http://www.aep.com/go/webcast. The webcasts will be archived and be available after the live event.

Minimum requirements to access the webcasts:
