PSO sends workers to Texas to assist in outage recovery

February 19, 2021

More than 100 Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) employees and contractors today are on their way to Texas to assist sister company AEP Texas restore electricity to customers impacted by that state’s ongoing power emergency.

Workers from PSO’s Tulsa, McAlester and Lawton districts are on their way to San Antonio, where they will spend the night before traveling tomorrow to the McAllen and Corpus Christi areas.  The contingent includes line crews, servicers, assessors, inspectors, fleet mechanics and other support personnel.

“While it appears the situation has significantly improved in Oklahoma, our neighbors in Texas continue to suffer.  We are in a position to send assistance to Texas while retaining the majority of our workforce to meet customer needs here in Oklahoma,” said Steve Baker, PSO Distribution vice president.  “As we’ve said many times before, we’re always going to do whatever we can to help others in these kinds of situations, because we never know when we may need their help.”

PSO recently was recognized by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) for its mutual assistance efforts in 2020, when it responded to calls for help from other utilities in the wake of hurricanes Hanna, Isaias, Laura, Sally and Delta.

There is no definitive timeframe for how long the PSO workers will be in Texas, but it is likely they will be there for at least several days.
