Community Activities
PSO employees play an important and active part in the communities where they live and work. We are also a financial supporter of non-profit organizations whose focus is improving the quality of life, as well as, a proud partner in education
Oklahoma FFA
PSO is a proud partner of Oklahoma FFA and supports its mission to help students develop their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. To elevate awareness of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) component of agricultural education, PSO has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships for student research projects in energy, the environment and electricity as well as provided financial incentives for outstanding FFA instructors. PSO and the AEP Foundation recently announced a “STEM After-School” program, which provides mini-grants to selected FFA chapters in PSO’s service area for use in after-school projects that are STEM-related. PSO also sponsors Oklahoma FFA’s State Convention and Oklahoma FFA’s Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT).
Day of Caring
PSO and AEP employees play a significant part in local United Way Day of Caring activities each year, participating in a variety of projects at non-profit agencies across our company’s Oklahoma service area.
MLK Day Parade
AEP and PSO employees participate regularly in Tulsa’s annual MLK Day Parade, waving at the crowd lining the parade route while escorting the AEP-PSO float.
Special Olympics
For over 30 years, we have fielded a team of 100 employees, friends and family members who volunteer to help with the softball throw event at the annual Oklahoma Special Olympics Summer State Games. The softball throw typically attracts more than 400 entrants and is the largest event of the Games.
PSO CONNECTS grants
Through our PSO CONNECTS program, employees and retirees who volunteer significant amounts of their time and talents are able to apply for mini-grants to the nonprofit organizations and schools for which they volunteer.
Week of the Young Child
Each April PSO sponsors celebration of the annual Week of the Young Child (WOYC) in communities across our service area. PSO’s Community Affairs managers help plan and coordinate a variety of activities to celebrate the week with local schools and communities.
WOYC is held across the U.S. to focus attention on the importance of early childhood education in helping young children succeed in school.
PSO has a long legacy of supporting positive educational experiences for children, and we know that these activities will stimulate learning for children and their families in a fun and healthy atmosphere.
